Pyrethrum growing Base

Taking Kunming as the center, the central part of Yunnan Plateau is a favorable place for pyrethrum planting and Yuxi is the best. Yuxi is located between 23°19′ and 24°58′N, and between 101°16′and 108°09′E, with an average altitude of 1,700 meters. Its annual average temperature is 15.9℃ and rainfall 930.50 millimeters. These features help to give rise to Yuxi’s unique and diversified climatic and ecological types so as to fulfill best the requirements of vegetable planting.
After three years of tentative planting, Yuxi’s highest output of pyrethrum reaches 170 kg and average 80-100 kg, the highest content of Pyrethrins reaches 1.7% and average 1.4%.
One harvest of pyrethrum can offer the peasants with a favorable return of 800-1000 RMB per mu, therefore strengthening peasants’ positive to plant pyrethrum and laying a solid foundation for pyrethrum industry.

Supported by Yuxi Municipal Government, in six counties and one district the company has developed a total planting area of 14,000 mu for pyrethrum planting and the prediction estimation of dry pyrethrum output is 1,200 tons. The planting area could scale-up according to the market requirement.

Recently there are numbers of pyrethrum planted in China that they differentiate from one another on such aspects as trunk growing speed, florescence length, average output, content of Pyrethrins, etc.. In view of long-term development, the company invests on the union with the governmental department that is in charge of agricultural science, to establish a planting base to optimize the pyrethrum speciation. The average content of Pyrethrins of those species selected within this year reaches 1.5% or more. After 2-3 years’ research, those species with a content more than 1.7% and an average output more than 100 kg should spread. <back>
